American Cancer Society Relay For Life is an international event organized by the society to celebrate the lives of cancer survivors. Among them is Freddie Blacksher, who talks in this video about his struggle with both lung and prostate cancer. Freddie Blacksher is a cancer survivor and his sense of humor and positive energy helped him through the diagnosis.
“I relay because I’m really involved in cancer prevention. I’m a two-time cancer survivor myself. I had prostate and lung cancer, all at the same time,” Freddie Blacksher explains in the video shared by the interviewer Earlisha Hackney on her YouTube channel. The survivor describes the time of the diagnosis as shocking and devastating, but he held on to God and his prays. After changing his lifestyle, including quit smoking and being treated, he is now cancer free.
Like Freddie Blacksher, over four million people in more than 20 countries participate in the American Cancer Society Relay For Life event. Through this experience, communities across the globe celebrate the lives of cancer survivors, remember loved ones lost to cancer, and help fight the disease. In addition, the annual event is also used to raise funding needed to help save the lives of cancer patients.
