This video from Prostate Cancer UK explains advanced prostate cancer. Advanced prostate cancer occurs when the cancer spreads from the prostate to surrounding areas. The further the cancer spreads, the more difficult it is to treat and the worse the prognosis will be.
Usually, the cancer will spread to the lymph nodes or nearby bones such as the pelvis and spine, but it can spread further afield to organs such as the liver and lungs. This advancement can also be called secondary tumors and metastases. Prostate cancer can spread in three ways: into nearby organs, through the lymphatic system or through the bloodstream.
